Many people never ever think about the acid & alkaline balance of our blood but a proper pH is very important to our overall health. Many doctors are pointing the importance of reducing acidity and increasing alkalinity with an proper diet.
Many different factors, such as overall health, gut health, stress, medications etc. affect pH level and the best way to balance your pH is to eat balanced and healthy diet and to reduce intake of processed foods. Also, healthy lifestyle can be helpful in keeping proper pH.
Balance between acidity and alkalinity in the body is called pH balance. Healthy pH level may prevent unhealthy organisms and microbes from tissues and organs and to prevent minerals from being depleted and human immune system from being compromised. Disease as doctors says, cannot take root in a body who has proper pH level.
pH is short for the “potential of “hydrogen”, a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration. pH scale range from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. Lower pH value means more acidic solution is and higher pH value shows more alkaline. The normal blood pH is tightly regulated between 7.35 and 7.45.
How Can You Achieve Proper pH balance? (4 Steps)
1. Eat an Alkaline Diet
2. Reduce Intake of Acidic Foods
- Processed meats (Hot dogs, salami and cured meats, etc.)
- Fried foods
- Foods high in sodium (Smoked, cured, salted or canned meat, canned entrees etc.)
- White sugar
- Processed cereal grains
- Conventional meats (Beef, pork and chicken)
- Milk and dairy
- Refined grains (White rice, white bread, pasta etc.)
- Caffeine and alcohol.
3. Drink Alkaline Water
4. Reduce Exposure to Toxins and Chemicals
Testing Your pH Level
You can test your pH using strips which you can buy at pharmacy or your local health foods store .Follow the instructions and compare the colors on your test strip to a pH scale chart. Best time to test your pH is one hour before a meal. Everything between a pH of 6.8 and 7.3 is normal.
