Microwaves-They are practical to use, they save us time and money, they heat, they un-freeze and thaw food and they are really effective.
Over 90% of Americans have microwave ovens in their homes. When microwave is compared with conventional ovens, microwave ovens are convenient and save energy and very few homes are without them. Most people believe that whatever a microwave do with food that is cooked in it, does not have any negative effect on the food or to themselves. But, let’s learn a bit more how microwave works.
In conventional ovens warming goes from outside to inside. Air molecules are the one who are first heated and then they heat the molecules on the surface of food and those molecules heat the ones who are in the deeper layers of the food.
On the other side, microwaves directly affect the food, while the oven itself remains cold. Unlike conventional, microwave oven, warm the outer and deeper layers of the food at the same time. Microwaves act simultaneously on many molecules in the various layers of food. That cause movement and rotation in molecules, such as in water, proteins, lipids. It has particularly strong influence on water molecules, which are starting to move and collide. In doing so, it generates heat, which warm up other molecules such as proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
These microwaves are electromagnetic waves with very low frequencies and they travels with the speed of light. They take scope between radio waves and infrared light. These microwaves deform the molecular structure of food. They destroy many of the nutrients in the food and microwave ovens can generate stray radiation which in the food creates free radicals which can be harmful to those who eat it and on long period can cause many problems to our health and immune system.
Here are some of the negative effects which microwave can bring from long term usage.
Electromagnetic fields in microwave affect our brain, and this can have negative effect on our sleep and even lead to insomnia.
Fatigue and obesity are another health problems which may occur from microwave electromagnetic waves.
Electromagnetic waves may affect the food itself, and not only that they will destroy some nutrients in the food but can also deform some molecules in the food leading to possible stomach problem.
In the end, decision is on each individual for himself, and everyone should have a certain degree of common sense to judge for himself.
