- Wild Chestnut Shells
Preparation and Usage:
Heat 500 grams of lard (animal fat) on low heat and when it’s completely melted add few fresh flowers and a handful of dried wild chestnut shells. Cook for 10 minutes with constant stirring. After 10 minutes remove from heat, cover and leave in cool place for 24 hours. The next day, re-put on low heat with constant stirring until it melts completely. Cook again for 10 minutes and then drain through sterile gauze and store it in a clean and dry glass jar or in few smaller. Let dry overnight to harden and from the next day you are ready to use it. Store in a dark and dry place. Use this ointment once per day.
For our vegan friends, you can use vegetable shortening (shortening is any fat that is a solid at room temperature) instead of lard. Soybean oil, palm oil and fully hydrogenated palm oil, mono and diglycerides etc.
