Homemade Jar Sauerkraut Recipe
You will need:
- 2 Medium size cabbage heads
- Sea salt (non-iodized)
- Sugar (optional)
- 2 Cloves chopped garlic (optional)
- Black pepper (optional)
- First, wash the cabbage, discard the outer leaves and then slice the cabbage into quarters to make shredding easier,
- Shred or chop the cabbage into some plastic bowl,
- In already prepared 1-liter jars, add the cabbage and with help of wooden spoon press to pack the jar good and to get rid of air pockets,
- Add 2 Tsp Salt and 1/2 Tsp Sugar (optional for more sourness) in each jar,
- Add bit of garlic and pepper in each jars (optional),
- Fill the jars with boiled water,
- Place the lids on all jars and tighten them good,
- Keep them at room temperature, out of direct sunlight for 1 month.
