But, what if we tell you that there are some vegetables which can be bought once and you can have them forever?
Now you are probably asking yourself what are we talking about and how is this possible? Answer is simple, start growing your own vegetables at home. Yes, you can grown your own fresh vegetables over and over and have them forever, no matter where you live, you can use your backyard or you can use your terase.
Vegetables provide nutrients which are vital for good health of our body. The following vegetables are very easy to grow and we will tell you how to regrow them to have unlimited supplies forever.
Vegetable which has many health benefits and one of those vegetables what we use almost every day. You can easily grow a whole garlic bulb just from a single clove. First, choose some large bulbs and make sure they are in good condition (healthy not spoiled or with signs of disease). For outdoor, poke the cloves into the ground 3-4 inches deep and 6 to 8 inches apart, with their pointed ends up. Cover the planted area with 3 or 4 inches of organic mulch, like hay or shredded leaves. Indoor, buy potting mix and plant few cloves also pointed ends up in a pot filled with potting soil (filled within 2 inches of the rim). Let them sit on a sunny place, like window ledge or at tarase and keep them watered regularly. The garlic greens will grow within 2 weeks.
Another vegetable which has wide range of usages in our kitchen and also with many healing properties. To grow or to regrow onions at home or if you like, to grow onions right into your kitchen, you will need just empty bottle (5 liter), potting soil and of course, onions to start. First, with scissors or sharp knife cut holes around the plastic bottle. Make sure that holes are of a size of an onion. When holes are ready you can start. First, pour some potting soil into the bottle until you reach the first layer of holes and then place the onions making sure that the tip faces outward. Continue until you fill entire bottle. When you are done, pour some water and place the bottle near window. Enjoy in your your vertical organic onion garden.
When it comes to artichoke, to grow this plant you will need very drained soil and very sunny environment. If you have those conditions, you can start. First, prepare your garden using a shovel to thoroughly blend the soil with compost. Then, plant them around 30 inches apart in rows and make sure that the soil is well-drained and like we said previously, exposed to sun. Also, you can apply a layer of mulch around the artichokes which acts as a natural fertilizer. To grow artichoke successfully, you will need to fertilize the soil with granulated fertilizer one in a month to create the rich soil artichokes require. Fertilizer need to contain balanced amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Harvest fresh leeks when bud is not opened but they are big enough to eat.
All you need to do to grow carrot greens (carrot tops) at home is water. Just cut the tops off of a carrot and put the top of a carrot in an upside down lid, then add bit of water and that’s it. You can place the lid on sunny place and after a while (within a week) it would start to grow. People are usually using carrot greens in a salads combined with garlic and vinegar.
Another vegetable which is very easy to regrow. Just cut the base off of a celery and put it into a small bowl or shallow bowl or saucer of warm water in the sun. After a week, or after a 5-7 days, when leaves will thicken and grow, transfer the celery base into a pot or container with potting soil. Water it regularly.
Romaine lettuce, which is our main ingredient in many salads, can be easily grown at home conditions. Simple place stamps in a few inches of water for few days and when you notice that new roots start to appear replant into a pot with soil. Water regularly and after a while your leaves will grow up to twice the size.
Roots of the scallions can be used to easily regrow new vegetable. Just place an inch of the scallions attached to the root in a glass of water or some small plastic bowl. Keep in a well-lit place with room temperature. When they grow to 5-6 inches long, you can start picking them.
You can use basil cuttings to regrow new plant. Just put basil clippings, ones with 3-4 inches long stems into a glass or bowl filled with water and place them in direct sunlight. When roots start to grow, plant them in a pot. Water it regularly and watch how your new organic basil grows.
