Feeling of satisfaction and happiness, or the opposite – dissatisfaction and unhappiness, a cause, other than the external or life situations, has the level of a hormone called serotonin.
Serotonin is an important brain chemical that improves mood and stops feelings of depression and anxiety. This is a molecule of willpower and its deficiency can lead to the inability to create or act, for which a person is unable to fulfill its obligations, usually feels depressed, easily upset or fail to control their impulses.
Serotonin has a variety of functions – Regulates the blood flow in the brain, has influence in regulation of body temperature, has an analgesic actions, affecting on appetite (increasing or decreasing) etc. His influence on the mood usually is associated with depression. If there is a decreased production of serotonin in the nervous system, like we said, it comes to mood disorders as depression or anxiety.
It is necessary to do as much as possible to maintain min. level of serotonin and raised him as much as possible. Although, main factor is genetic, this can be done also or at least boost with:
1. Regular exercise and movement;
2. Exposure to the sun’s brightness;
3. Choice foods that contain serotonin.
Everyone knows how many benefits regular exercises have and tt has been shown that moderate exercise affects the human body almost as intense as the antidepressants. 3 times a week for 20-30 minutes will be slightly helpful and useful.
Sunlight play big role for our mood, the sun is big factor and one of the most important factors who help us to maintain the level of serotonin in the body. It has three advantages over other forms of light: has ultraviolet (UV) light, occurs in the proper time for the body and is much lighter than the artificial light. Sun gives us vitamin B2 and fill us with positive energy.
As for foods that stimulate the secretion of serotonin we can safely say that these foods act as natural antidepressants also. People with low levels of serotonin usually have low DHA, which is the acid that is part of the basic structure of the brain and must be supplemented with food that is rich in omega-3 acid which can be found in foods such as fish, especially salmon, and fish oils, nuts, seeds and oils obtained from them, particularly flax. Because it contains resveratrol, dark chocolate raises serotonin levels. Also, in first line are all fruits and vegetables, especially bananas, cereals, whole grains, from meat: turkey, chicken, pork, liver and all dairy products.
Finally, do not forget and always have in mind-positive thoughts!
