Bleeding gums are a very common problem and there are many different causes for it. In case you are suffering from gum swelling that lasts longer than 3 days contact your dentist.

There are different causes of gum inflammation such as medications, toothpaste brand switch or insufficient oral hygiene, poor nutrition and of course gingivitis which is considered to be the main cause of swollen gums and also is considered to be first stage of gum disease and if it’s left untreated, it can become even more serious infection known as periodontitis.

Those who have constant problem with inflammation of the gums, are more likely to suffer from diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases and complications in pregnancy. Inflammation of the gums can be overcome with proper oral hygiene at first place and healthy eating habits.

There are some things you can do to alleviate the severity of the swelling, bleeding and discomfort but, in case of long-term and persistent inflammation of the gums contact your dentist for further assistance as soon as possible.

How To Treat Bleeding Gums At Home

Warm and Cold Compresses

Hot and cold compress will help alleviate the problems and pain. Simple, you can soak cloth for example in hot water and drained it and then hold on your face for 5 minutes. Then take some frozen fruit or wrap some ice in cloth or towel and hold it for few minutes on your face.

Salt Water

Salt water eliminates bacteria from the oral cavity and thus reduces the risk of infections that cause various diseases in the oral cavity. Simple gargle with saltwater few times a day.

Black Tea Bags

Black tea has excellent anti-inflammatory properties and contains tannins and tannins relieves inflammation of the gums. Just place cooled tea bag on the affected area and hold it for 10 to 15 minutes. Then wash with warm water and repeat the procedure for several days.

Oil Pulling (Olive or Coconut Oil)

This ancient Ayurvedic dental technique improves oral health. Simple but very efficient treating method. Whether it is for gingivitis or some other problem in oral cavity, gargling with cold pressed olive or coconut oil may help. Every day in the morning, take one teaspoon coconut or olive oil and gargle for 10-15 minutes, then spit it out and wash your teeth as usual.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is another effective remedy that can be used to treat swollen and bleeding gums. Packed with strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, this herb has ability to prevent growth of plaque-causing bacteria. in the mouth and to soothe inflamed gums. Just cut an aloe vera leaf to get the gel and with your fingers rub it on the gums, gently massaging the gums for 2-3 minutes and rinse your mouth with clean warm water. Repeat this few times a day.
